Neglected Profession

Neglected Profession

Last week I went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital to collect some stuff… I came across this plastic bag which particularly attracted my attention.

The bag reads “Pharmacists are trained health professionals.

It shows that how society deeply misunderstood the role of a pharmacist in our hospitals today. In actual fact, they play an integral part into delievering the quality of health care seen in hospitals all over Singapore. Their roles include checking prescriptions, offering consultation services, research into more effective treatments etc etc..

There are many professions out there that do not receive the recognition that are rightfully deserved. Sad to say, Pharmacist is just one of them.

Trishaws like the one above once amassed along Singapore River and City Hall. Today, these trishaws are mainly driven by elderly man who are trying to make a living out of this dying trait.

Recently, I encountered an elderly trishaw man at the cross section outside Raffles City. I was saddened to see that despite the huge crowd around him, most of us are oblivious to the continuous ringing of his trishaw bell. The man was trying to attract the attention of tourists to take a ride on his trishaw, but to no avail.

One day I will love to experience a ride around the city on a trishaw (armed with my camera). Hopefully, however unglamorous the job might be, there will be Singaporeans who appreciate these trishaws riders on their contribution to tourism in Singapore.

Recently, I had covered a couple of  SHF events as a photographer. Through these events, I found out that heart disease is actually the number one killer among women in Singapore. Therefore here are some pointers from the SHF:

1. 3 Highs – High in fibre, freshness and plant based proteins

2. 5 Lows – Low in fat, choloesterol, salt, sugar and alcohol

3. Always eat 70% full!!! That’s the 3-5-7 ways of keeping healthy!

Besides the above, for those women and men out there, please do exercise regularly (3km walk or 5000 steps per day) 5 times per week!

Here are some pictures that i’ve taken during the events:

The kids there are really cute! :)
